Interesting AR lower
Posted in Firearms with tags AR15 on 12/02/2009 by af275Saw this lower while reading Advanced Armament’s BLOG. It is a really unique design,I really like the integrated trigger guard and the grip ridges on the mag side.
Info from http://www.seekinsprecision.com/index_p.php?p=arlower
The SP-223 lower is made of 7075T6 billet, and is type III hard anodized black with Teflon coating. Our lower has features like no other lower on the market. Some key differences of the SP lower are the oversized winter trigger guard, quick access mag release, large front grip, and a nice beveled mag well opening. The oversized, built in trigger guard allows the use of a thick winter glove. The magazine release area has been designed to allow quick and easy access to the release button from any position. Also, the mag well is wider and elongated in the front for a sure grip as well as having a large beveled opening for fast, smooth mag changes. An upper receiver tensioning screw is located under the grip, and it also includes a captive detent spring to retain the rear takedown pin.
Stay tuned for more innovative AR products from us this year, including a DPMS compatible 308 lower and matching uppers for both.

Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition
Posted in Video Games with tags Modern Warfare 2, PS3 on 11/17/2009 by af275Been playing this since the midnight release of the 9th. The game is incredible, and the multiplayer mode seems never ending. Of course in the Prestige Editon you get all the bonuses of the Harden Edition, along with the Night Vision Goggles. For the price of it all, the goggles are pretty fun, work in green and white mode. Overal quite pleased with the entire package.
Playing on the PS3 for this game.

Installed a Lone Wolf 3.5# connector in Glock 19
Posted in Firearms, Installs with tags G19, Glock on 11/17/2009 by af275Friday night I installed a Lone Wolf Dist. 3.5lb connector into my Glock 19, at the same time I did some much needed cleaning since getting the gun,and polished some of the friction parts within the trigger assembly.
I used a 2.5 hex head as a punch for disassembly.

Hear you can see the two pins you have to remove. One above the trigger, and another towards the rear.

Pin removed. The slide stop has to get moved slighty to allow this pin to come out.

Pins and slide stop removed.

Block slides straight out the top, then you can remove the trigger assembly.
All it takes is a knife to pry under the connector and slide it out, takes very little pressure.

New Lone Wolf Connector.

Basically then you just reinstalled in the reverse order, not hard to do at all.
Most 3.5lb have the – symbol on them, the standard 5.5 are blank, and the 8.5lb depending on manufacturer are blank or have a + on them.
One of the areas I polished. Before I did.

Just helps smooth things out.
I haven’t taken this to the range yet, I hope to go this week, and at the least I’ll fire it at my HCP class Saturday. I can already tell a great difference in the pull. But I cannot say really which part really made the most difference, the cleaning, the polishing, or the connector in my gun, the pull was VERY hard on it to start with. I know all three together have made a great impact.
KCI vs OEM Glock 15rd magazines
Posted in Firearms, Reviews with tags G19, Glock, KCI, Magazine on 11/17/2009 by af275I just got came into two KCI 15rd Glock magazines.
I’d heard some 50/50 things about them online, but worth a shot to try out, already have 3 OEM ones.
First thing they loaded like crap. One the first one, it jammed and I couldn’t load more then 9rds in. I tried using the Glock speedloader and when you pressed the back of the round the nose of the bullet would go stay up and the rear of the casing would go down. So I took the mag apart and bent the spring slightly so the pressure would be a little bit more even. Then I reloaded it, this time it took all 15rds but was difficult to load towards the end. Was still binding a little.
I shot these yesterday. So far only 45rds through each mag but working well so far, both fed through just fine.
Here is a side by side picture comparison of the two magazines.

5.11 Trainer Belt
Posted in Gear, Reviews with tags 5.11, Gear on 11/17/2009 by af275I recently got a 5.11 Trainer Belt. Great quality. 1 1/2″ stiff nylon webbing. Really sturdy build and fits nicely. I highly recommend this belt for use with holsters. I carry my Comp-tac Infidel holster with belt clip on it, and it is a perfect fit.

Maverick 88 build
Posted in Firearms, Installs with tags Firearms, Maverick 88 on 11/17/2009 by af275
The start, off the shelf Maverick 88 12ga shotgun, available at most Walmarts, sporting good stores, and S-Marts.

I know my caliber was a little off, but measuring the inner diameter of the barrel, for rod fitment.

To measure the length correctly, as the ATF lists they do, I bought a piece of PVC pipe to use as the rod the make sure I cut the barrel to a legal length.

Here I marked the PVC pipe with black masking tape. You cock the gun unloaded and put the pipe down the barrel, and mark. This gives you the baseline for your measurements.
The marking ended up being exactly at the 28″ mark. Pipe next to barrel in this photo.

There I measured to the 18.5″ mark and made a marking on the pipe.

Removing the barrel is simple, just undo the holder at the end of the mag tube, and the barrel slides right off.

Double checking my measurements with the barrel removed.

Where the pipe ends up.

After measuring down the pipe from the 28″ marking we do get 9.5″ to be the amount to cut. Here I have marked the barrel for cutting.

Set in a vise grip to cut

Went with a hacksaw for cutting

Finished product

I cleaned up the cut with an emery cloth and a Dremel sanding dish. No burs or sharp edges and it completely even.

And now on the parts from ATI

Here is the mounting hardware, different bolts and adapter plates for various manufactures.

To start, removed the 2 phillips head screws holding the pad down.

Removing the pad gains access to the bolt holding the stock on, its a 1/2″ socket

Stock removed.

Using the shortest of the mounting bolts (listed for Mossbergs and Maverick 88), mounted the pistol grip.

Then you slide the stock into the back of the pistol grip, then you use an internal threaded shaft and a small screw to secure the stock (seen at the back of the pistol grip) *Note: the stock would not fully slide into the pistol grip at first, the head of the allen bolt mounting he grip was too tall, so I tool a dremel and enlarged the indentation in the stock to fit around the bolt)
And installed.

Stock full extended
Stock full retracted

That part is now, now onto the 5 shot saddle.

The ATI shotforce stock is predrilled for their 5 shot saddle, just pick which side you want the saddle on, and first mount the back plate.

Then there are just 6 small phillips head screws to mount the holder to the mounting plate.

Last part installed was the ATI light mount with swivel stud. This just lines up over the mag tube, and get tightened down with one screw, which doubles as the swivel stud
Just a test fitment light for now. This same part can also be used instead for bracing an extended mag tube to the barrel.

And 100% complete.
